Moonlight Kids Backpacking

Having the world’s first national park in our backyard allows for some incredible experiences and opportunities to be pioneers in our own life. Yellowstone National Park boasts over 1,000 miles of trails and we’re excited to get our boots on ‘em!

Campers from 10 -17 years old and all experience levels are invited - there’s a trip for everyone!

Gear, food, transportation and expert guides are provided. All trips require advance registration and attendance to a pre-trip meeting at Moonlight Basin the day before departure.

SHOSHONE LAKE: July 18 - 21

Spend four days exploring in and around the largest backcountry lake not accessible by road in the lower 48! Walk among lodgepole pines, through thermal areas, and alongside creeks while keeping an eye out for furry friends. This trip is a good intermediate backpacking option.

CHAIN OF LAKES: July 28 - 30

This trail meanders through sweeping meadows and mixed forests to connect multiple lakes in the Canyon region of the park. Opportunities to swim, fly fish, and view wildlife like bison, swans, and bears are also on the agenda! This trip is a great option for anyone looking to “dip their toes” into backpacking.

NORTHWESTERN ADVENTURE:

August 4 - 7

Campers will take on some steeper terrain in order to visit the picturesque Crescent, Shelf, and High Lakes! Additionally, the trail includes the opportunity take in panoramic views from the ridgeline on part of the Sky Rim Trial. This trip is right out our back door on the edge of Yellowstone, and is a more challenging trip option.

DUNANDA LOOP: August 12 - 14

Campers will spend three days navigating along the Bechler River, which includes wandering meadows with views of the Tetons and the chance to swim in natural hot springs! This trip is recommended for those newer to backpacking.
